June 2005 French NGOs and the FAO/UNESCO Programme “Education for Rural People”
The FAO/UNESCO Education for Rural People (ERP) programme invited 70 French non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to participate in a survey in order to better analyse the partnerships that have developed between ERP and French NGOs. As the survey results illustrate, 57 of the 70 French NGOs contacted confirmed that not only do they consider the important role that Education for Rural People has to play throughout the entire development process, but that they also incorporate its elements into their projects. The resulting document provides an overview on the initiatives undertaken by French NGOs in the area of basic education for rural people in Africa and may serve as a useful resource for NGOs working with the ERP initiative and present and future members of the partnership.
