The 9th Conference on Women from Latin America and the Caribbean

This Conference was attended by Ministers for Women’s Affairs in the region. The main objective for the Conference was the evaluation of the Follow-up to the Beijing +10 Plan of Action in the Latin American and the Caribbean region and a reporting on activities since Beijing +5. The participants also evaluated the current status of women in the region as well as their concerns and emerging issues. The Conference organizer, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), presented an evaluation document on the current status of women in Latin America and the Caribbean.

During the event, four panels on emerging issues were organized and FAO, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), organized a panel on “Gender, migration and globalization: opportunities and inequalities” with the participation of several UN organizations (ECLAC, the Population Division of ECLAC: CELADE, and the International Organization for Migration : OIM) . FAO presented a paper on “Internal migration flows: the feminization of migration and its impact on food security.”
