April 2004 Rural population ageing in developing countries: issues for consideration by FAOby
Libor Stloukal This paper discusses the implications of rural population ageing for agriculture, food security and sustainable rural development in low-income countries. It argues that agencies such as FAO must respond to the various challenges and opportunities arising from rural ageing by incorporating ageing-related matters into their activities. At the same time, more information needs to be generated about the exact nature of the linkages between population ageing and social, economic and environmental issues in concrete settings.
