Agricultural workers and their contribution to sustainable agriculture and rural development

Joint report published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers’ Associations (IUF)

This joint report published on 6 October by FAO, ILO and IUF draws attention to the plight of the world’s 450 million waged agricultural workers. The report details the unstable and temporary nature of this form of employment, and the issues affecting agricultural workers such as low wages, hazardous work conditions, child labour, and - above all - the lack of human rights. It calls for the development and promotion of an agenda for fair and decent work conditions in agriculture.
