ASIACOVER - Towards the Development and Applications of a Multi-purpose Environmental and Natural Resources Information Base for Food Security and Sustainable Development
The renewable natural resources of many Asian countries have come under severe strain over the past two or three decades and most indicators point towards a continuation of this trend. Whilst a large amount of data related to land cover exist in Asia, most are not consistent over large geographic areas and therefore cannot be aggregated at regional and/or sub-regional scale. Hence, the aim of the ... more

El Niņo situation and prospects: April 2002
| April 2002. This report is a coupled atmospheric and oceanic phenomenon; predictions are based on several independent observations. To estimate future El Niņo-Southern Oscillation (or ENSO) conditions, a common practice is to compare different reputable models that currently represent the state-of-the-art as far as dynamical and statistical ENSO prediction systems are concerned.

The Role of Remote Sensing in FAO's Global Forest Resources Assessment and Monitoring Programme
The need for assessment and systematic observations of forest cover and to establish and/or strengthen the necessary capacities has been strongly expressed in UNCED's Agenda 21. In keeping with its mandate FAO has executed a series of forest resources assessment projects. This paper focuses on the remote sensing approach used for the tropical part of the Forest Resources Assessment 1990 Project.
