| The use of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in addressing chronic environmentally damaging agricultural and rural development practices: Examples from Kenya and Cambodia |
| To support sustainable agriculture and rural development in Kenya and Cambodia, FAO carried out training for professionals with an emphasis on field situations and case studies. The application of EIA resulted in a substantial improvement in the understanding of each case and in the description of the solution to the problem in all 35 cases in Kenya and all 24 cases in Cambodia. |

| This paper reports on the planning and delivery of a course on "EIA training for sustainable agriculture and rural development" held in 1992 in Kenya illustrating "the benefits of EIA in times of adversity", and on the results of the application of EIA principles, procedures and methods to 35 case studies in Kenya. |
