This manual is intended mainly for small-scale oil palm farmers and processors and extension agents for use in the field. It gives some practical information related to palm oils, planting material, the nursery, the immature plantation, the mature plantation and processing. Photographs and diagrams show better how to lead the work. The material has been collected from 25 years of practical field experience based on development of cold-tolerance oil palm in poor rural communities of Africa but the manual applies to hybrids in general. The described system uses smallholder production and small-scale portable presses easily adapted to village activities. Women can be readily involved in the processes of nursery operations, inter-cropping, maintenance, loose fruit collection, processing, refining, down-stream products, packaging, marketing, waste utilization, and accounting.
