This book is a training tool for capacity development initiatives aimed at educators on rural development, and planners. It is also a useful tool for university professors, students and researchers of the agriculture rural development and education sectors. It aims at supporting countries in the reform of their education, training and rural development policies. This book is the result of the international study on education and rural development jointly conducted by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and UNESCO's International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP). It reviews the status of public policies and uses recent sources of information to reformulate education issues in the framework of the emerging rural development discourse. The book also discusses skills development challenges and analyzes emerging strategies developed by innovative higher education institutions.
