Phase-I (1998-2002)
Phase-I of the programme ended 31 March 2002. In this phase 27 project activities were implemented in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Uganda and Namibia in partnership with more than 70 organizations.

Phase-II (2002-2003)
HIV/AIDS and its impact on agricultural productions, food security and household resource management was identified by the national partners to be a common problem to be addressed by the IP.

Norway is funding a consolidation phase that started in April 2002. Building on the experiences from Phase-I and the lessons learnt exercise, Phase-II projects are being implemented in collaboration with both established and new partners in Namibia, Zambia and Uganda. Rather than supporting many small projects as was done in Phase-I, the IP decided to bring together partners for collaboration on mitigation of HIV/AIDS, an issue greatly in need of a multisectoral approach.
