World Congress on Communication for Development Rome, Italy, 25-27 October 2006
The first World Congress on Communication for Development (WCCD) jointly organized by FAO, World Bank and The Communication Initiative will be held in Rome from 25-27 October 2006 at FAO headquarters. The focus of the Congress is to effectively promote the mainstreaming of communication into development policies and programmes and to promote strategic partnerships and alliances in this field. Its ultimate objective is to demonstrate that communication for development is essential for meeting today's most pressing development challenges and, as such, should be more fully integrated in development policy and practice.

Lilongwe, Malawi, 26-29 April 2005 THE NEED FOR RURAL RADIO IN AFRICA Recognizing that the current world food situation poses one of the worst crises facing humankind, FAO has, since the 1960s, recognized the crucial role radio can play in helping to redress this crisis, as well as bring about rural development and poverty reduction. The organization has been associated with attempts at finding ways of maximizing its use and impact. In this, FAO has been working together with CTA, AMARC and UNESCO.
