Cover   One of FAO's strengths is its assembled expertise and multidisciplinary capacity. This Portal has been created by an Interdepartamental Working Group of FAO focused on Research and Extension (IDGW-R&E). Its members are experts with extensive experience in agriculture, fisheries, forestry, sustainable development, economics, information management, information systems and other related areas.

Human resources and institutional capacities are needed in developing and strengthening the agricultural R&E sector to foster innovation. The Portal contributes towards this effort. It is meant to give target audiences (policy makers, extension agents, researchers, project managers, etc.) a broad vision of FAO's resources on different R&E issues.

FAO is a knowledge organization and this portal capitalises on existing content and resources, avoiding duplications and establishing the necessary links and connections within FAO and with its major partners in R&E, in particular the International Research Centres of the CGIAR.
