It is meant to give the users a broad choice of training resources on different biosafety issues, ranging from recombinant DNA laboratory safety, through biosafety and containment issues for GMO research in greenhouses, to the requirements of, or criteria for, assessing GMOs and the effects of introducing a GMO into the environment. Some of the documents detail the development and implementation of biosafety regulations to enable technology transfer.

Led by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the goal of AGORA is to increase the quality and effectiveness of agricultural research, education and training in low-income countries, and in turn, to improve food security.

The AGRIS central database accessible from the AGRIS website provides member countries with a mechanism for online publishing. It offers a unique visibility tool for both published and grey literature in agricultural sciences and technology and facilitates centres to publish online that don't have that capacity. This is one of the main activities of the AGRIS network ant it became operational in 1975.

AskFAO is a service driven by user information needs, providing answers to queries related to the FAO's areas of expertise. Working with FAO experts, offices around the world as well as with partner organizations, it provides a mechanism to communicate directly with technical experts in a particular field of interest

The glossary is a revised, augmented version of the "Glossary of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering", published by FAO in 1999. In 2001, the process of revising the Glossary was undertaken to update the definitions of this rapidly evolving field and to enrich the number of terms defined. It now includes about 450 new terms, about 100 old terms have been deleted and it contains a total of 3,196 terms and related definitions. Available in English, French, Spanish and Arabic.
