Country: Bhutan
Starting Date: June 2005
FAO Contribution: US$275 215
Project summary:
The objective of the project is to increase production in food and agriculture by strengthening existing linkages between agricultural research and extension through the establishment of a VERCON system within the RNR sector.
Internet is a potentially powerful tool for improving communication between research, extension and farmers. The Virtual Extension, Research and Communication Network (VERCON) employs this potential to establish and strengthen linkages among the human and institutional elements. It enhances two-way communication establishing links between geographically dispersed people and collects processes and rapidly disperses information. VERCON is a concept developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) aimed at improving the linkages between and within agriculture research and extension institutions through the human and the technological codependent components.
