In the context of the Pacific Regional Meeting, FAO and UNDP, in coordination with the Secretariat to the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) circulated a draft text to delegates "Healthy Oceans and Sustainable tuna fisheries"that emphasizes the need for the Pacific to have a strong stance on oceans, specifically the sustainable management of fisheries.
FAO, UNDP, SPC and FFA are committed to the common goals to manage tuna fisheries sustainably and thereby contributing to healthy oceans and improving thelivelihoods and economic wellbeing of Pacific SIDS. FAO currently implements a global and regional tuna fisheries project, which constitute examples of global partnerships that include stakeholders at global, regional, sub regional and national level, as well as from nongovernmental organizations and the private sector, with an overall investment of $250 million in support of sustainable tuna fisheries.
