Many challenges including urbanisation, globalisation and climate change have resulted in significant changes to the food environment, and consequently the health of Pacific Island populations. Many Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS) currently face both chronic undernutrition and micronutrient deficiency, such as iron deficiency anaemia, with growing rates of obesity. Nine of the top ten countries in the world with the highest prevalence of diabetes are in the Pacific region.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is receiving applications to the virtual seminar on The 2030 Agenda and the opportunities for the Caribbean: “Towards sustainable food systems and agriculture”, starting on 26 September 2018.
This is a great opportunity for managers and professionals from governments, private sector, academia and civil society of the Caribbean countries to interactively learn and exchange experiences on mainstreaming the 2030 agenda into national policies, plans and strategies related to agriculture and food systems and monitoring and communicating SDG’s progress.
