About the course

In the entire world, 70% of the population lacks adequate access to social protection with the majority of them living in rural areas. Social protection, when appropriately designed, implemented and coordinated can generate a broad range of positive impacts on poor and vulnerable households and individuals in rural areas.

This micro-course focuses on the multiple dimensions and drivers of rural poverty and inequality and on how social protection can make rural transformation more inclusive. It also approaches themes such as human capital, food security, and decent work, as well as the synergies that can be enabled when complementing social protection with other interventions.

The course is divided in the following modules:

  • Module 1: Introduction to socio-economic challenges in rural settings
  • Module 2: Introduction to social protection
  • Module 3: Social protection’s impact on inclusive rural transformation
  • Module 4: Synergies between social protection and other interventions
  • Module 5: Main takeaways

The course requires three hours of learning time to complete, and you can earn a certificate upon completion. Click here to start.
