Land use opportunities across climatic zones on the edge of human influence

APOLLO e.V. aims to answer global challenges in education with new activities. As a further step, we are going to support leading universities in Europe to organize educational initiatives across regions and contrasting fields of knowledge.

The pilot project is related to the preparing of an excursion across diverse climatic zones in Western Siberia developed since 1995 by the Technical University in Berlin and the Centre of Life Sciences Weihenstephan at Technical University Munich.

The excursion will take place from middle of July to first weeks of August in 2017 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. habil. Ch. Siewert and his partners from leading research institutes and universities in Siberia (Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Barnaul and others).

The excursion aims to answer global challenges in sustainable land use and mitigation of climate change. For this purpose, it offers during 3 weeks deep emotional insights into landscapes nearly non-touched by human activities across all climatic zones from tundra to desert conditions. It tries to facilitate a better understanding of interrelations between traditional and modern land use, regional culture, social demands and economy.

With the typical for Siberia diversity of natural objects, with the specifics of organization, and the applied teaching approaches the excursion likes to support a knowledge distribution which is focused on sustainable management of resources by new approaches of thinking independently from regional focuses in education, country borders and political considerations.

For the participation basic knowledge in English language is essential.
