Mandate, main activities of the institution and competencies

Mandate:

  • Preparation and implementation of the policy formulated by the Head of State in terms of livestock.

Main activities:

  • Defining and implementing the necessary means to achieve the overall aims of developing livestock;
  • Defining research topics relating to livestock;
  • Coordination, monitoring and assessment of the implementation of polices, programmes, projects and actions relating to animal health and sanitation;
  • Supervision and training in livestock;
  • Rural and agricultural guidance in livestock matters to increase and diversify animal products;
  • Involvement in carrying out and monitoring pastoral projects, infrastructure and equipment in the livestock domain;
  • Vocational livestock training.

Potential activities:

Exchange of scientific experience

  • Exchange of scientific experiences in combating the spread of animal diseases, reactivation and development of preventive measures in force in both countries
  • Exchange of plans and programmes to combat animal diseases and prevention measures in force in both countries
  • Exchange of scientific experience in animal products (fermented milk, poultry and so forth); marketing, conservation and quality and specification control techniques; and techniques for sorting and improving the quality of animal skins
  • Exchange of information and experience in animal biotechnologies through the genetic enhancement of domestic ruminants
  • Exchange of experience in livestock data management and project planning
  • Working on promoting rural women to strengthen their role in livestock development and their contribution to food security of the population.

  • Methods for combating animal diseases in both countries  
  • Application of public animal health rules  
  • Animal products (meat, milk, poultry farming, beekeeping and so on)

Exchange visits

  • Organizing visits from technical staff to share scientific and technical experiences in animal health and combating animal diseases, protecting animal health, analytical diagnoses, practical research, animal products and the implementation of livestock development plans.

Cooperation in the area of research  

  • Coordination in animal and livestock research and the exchange of scientific research results.

Organization of workshops, seminars, forums and conferences

  • Organization of scientific forums, conferences and workshops on livestock. 

Trade

  • Drawing up an agreement to promote trade in livestock products such as live animals (cows, sheep, goats, poultry and so on), meat, milk and chicks in accordance with the necessary standards that exporters and importers need to respect to meet health and veterinary conditions and ensure the quarantine of animals.

Investment

  • Creating an environment conducive to the private sector in both countries investing in each other’s various livestock domains, and in particular: livestock farms for producing and selling meat and dairy animals; production of veterinary medicines and serums; fodder crops and industries producing cattle feed; export, transport, preservation and storage equipment.
