APERDRI is an institution with fifty years of research and planning experience, which generates thought, knowledge and plans toward sustainable development of agriculture and natural resources. In this area, APERDRI possesses a unique status in the Ministry of Agriculture - Jahad.
- Main Activities:
APERDRI conducts applied development studies to understand the existing situation, identify the challenges ahead, and predict the future economic and social changes at the national and global levels. APERI formulates strategies, plans and policy recommendations to institutions with decision making and executive mandates.

- Compiling, planning and approving the decisions and policies in agriculture sector and natural resources in long, medium and short terms in both national and regional levels are on the head of this institute. This has accounted for the richest and deepest researches fulfilled by this institute in Iranian agriculture sector.
- The second area of activities the institute is engaged in is doing researches in the field of Agricultural Planning, Economics and Rural Development in macro levels aiming at an autopsy of economic phenomena in the sector; i.e., fulfilling researches that enjoy their own complexities and make it possible to manage the strategies to optimize and make the best of the resources and production factors
