MAfFS

The online platform for immediate and user-friendly access to information on actions and resource flows for food and nutrition security.

The Mapping Actions for Food Security is a web platform to help stakeholders at country, regional and global levels to share information about their investments in food and nutrition security.

The web platform is a decision-support tool that allows users to track and map ongoing actions in order to better program and coordinate their response to food and nutrition insecurity.

The tool may help them to identify gaps and overlaps, prioritize resource alloca¬tion, harmonize actions, and draw lessons for future policy and programme development.

Why MAfFS?

Information on “who does what where, when, why and with what resources” is key when developing new programmes and strategies, but it is often collected as a one-off exercise in different times and by different actors.

The MAfFS platform brings a more systematic and country-owned approach to this type of work, making it less costly and more user-friendly, while providing easy access to all stakeholders to up-to-date information through the web.

Country-owned approach

Countries and regional organizations using this platform have their own section where they can easily manage their data entry process and generate standard or customised queries and reports.

Users can enter, manage and share information on projects and programmes for food and nutrition security. Based on this MAfFS generates reports on total commitments made and allocations available from different sources, for different activity types, locations, implementing partners, time periods, etc.

Partnerships for better serving users needs

Following the pilot phase, FAO is presently supporting the roll-out of the web platform in new countries and regions in partnership with other agencies and within the context of its support to country and regional level action on food and nutrition insecurity.

FAO is developing synergies with other organizations involved in development action mapping, such as Development Gateway and Ending Child Hunger and Undernutrition (REACH) Initiative, to ensure inter-operability, avoid duplication and overlap, and allow sharing of data and information. The aim is to maximise the use and comparability of already available data worldwide.

The experience with MAfFS implementation is also being shared with the Commitee on World Food Security (CFS), where there is an increasing interest in finding solutions to mapping food and nutrition security actions at global, regional or country level.
