Investment Days 2018

FAO Investment Centre hosted its ninth internal knowledge-sharing event, Investment Days 2018 on the 4th and 5th of July at FAO headquarters in Rome. Over 120 participants including partners from International Financing Institutions (IFIs), the public sector, farmer organizations, the private sector and academia came together to share their knowledge on topics of strategic importance to FAO’s work to support investments in member countries.

Innovation for Better Investments was the theme of this year’s event. Through this lens participants explored the latest trends and thinking on innovative finance in food and agriculture on day one and on digital agriculture on day two.

Invited guests included investment financiers from the World Bank, IFAD, EBRD and impact investment funds. The private sector, large and small, were present including SAP and IBM as well as smaller companies, from e-agriculture start-up’s (Farm from a Box) to agriculture information services (AGRIDATA) each providing tailored services along the food and agriculture value chain. Non-governmental organizations and academia such as the European Space Agency, CIMMYT, Imperial Collage London and the East African Farmers Federation, plus many others also contributed.

Together, this rich mix of perspectives and entry points - united by the desire to contribute to the sustainable development goals - discussed how work collaboratively and to leverage more and better investments in food and agriculture.
