Rwanda and FAO acting for Sustainable Food and Agriculture (SFA)

Rwanda has been one of the first countries in which SFA was launched. After a consultative process aimed at identifying main sustainability issues of food and agriculture, a 3-day workshop was held in November in Kigali. Representatives of the Government of Rwanda, NGOs, civil society, development partners, and members of the research community  jointly defined priority areas of action and next steps for 2015. Four critical areas of action, where FAO has strong comparative advantage, were emphasized: Institutional coordination; Intensification; Finance and marketing; Ownership and professionalization. With the agreement of the Government of Rwanda, FAO now proposes to put these work areas into practice, through the implementation of practical interventions starting in 2015.
