Support to the Commonwealth Foundation for the preparation of strategies for maximizing the benefits of migration and remittances for pro-poor sustainable development and food security (TCP/INT/3302)
The vision of the project is to investigate the opportunities and challenges offered by migration and remittances to enhance food security, economic growth and socio-economic development. It will contribute to the incorporation of migration and remittances in planning and policy recommendations for sustainable food security, agriculture and rural development. The project will also contribute to maximize the benefits of cross-border migration for pro-poor development of the developing states of the Commonwealth.
The expected outcome of the project is that decision-makers, in consultation with all stakeholders, in countries where migration and remittances are a significant component of labour, that resource flows will re-dimension planning and policy recommendations for agricultural and rural development and that this exercise takes account of the inter-linkages with migration and remittances.
Selected countries' case studies which will include information and analytical results necessary to identify to what extent the positive effects of out-migration and the inflow of remittances and policy recommendations can be maximized.
