The Expert Meeting and MDT Management meeting were held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (23 to 24 February and 28 February to 02 March 2012 respectively).
The Policy Assistance Support Service helped to review major policy documents to identify priorities of the sub-region for the agricultural sector through the assessment of Regional Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Compacts, National Agriculture Investments plans and Agricultural development strategies, prepared by countries and Regional Economic Organisations (RECs) in the Eastern Africa Sub-region. A detailed report was prepared listing countries’ and RECs’ priorities and related budget allocated for their implementation (on file). The report also includes the mapping of those priorities against FAO’s Country Programming Frameworks (CPFs, NMTPFs) and other country plans.
In addition to reviewing of the key priorities at national and sub-regional levels, Government representatives provided their feedback during the SFE MDT management meeting: commonalities and gaps identified are summarized in a policy brief (attached).
Furthermore, in the context of FAO’s involvement in the CAADP that is being developed for the Horn of Africa (HoA) by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and member states, a meeting was organised with the regional team which is preparing the IGAD (Intergovernmental Authority on Development) CAADP compact and investment plan. The meeting allowed for a discussion on priorities identified and how the analysis could serve the development of the CAADP compact.
