CAADP Partnership Platform
The 8th Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Partnership Platform (PP) meeting brought together 270 participants including representatives of some 22 African Governments, Non State Actors, Development Partners and other CAADP stakeholders.
At the time the PP was held, 6 more countries with respect to Yaoundé’s 7th PP meeting signed their Compact leading to 30 countries plus the Economic Communities of West Africa States (ECOWAS) that now have CAADP Compacts, 21 have prepared National Agriculture and Food Security Investment Plans.
The meeting also reviewed the challenges faced with a view to agree on priority areas of action to accelerate implementation for results and impacts as the 10 years’ anniversary of CAADP is coming next year.
The ultimate objective of the meeting was therefore to exchange information between participants of future priorities and practices for CAADP partners by reflecting on progress, lessons, and experiences to date, as well as engaging partners across the following sub-themes:
- strengthening country leadership and ownership, and a culture of accountability;
- realizing sufficient and effective financial investment;
- fostering policy alignment, and institutional transformation; and
- responding to emerging trends for the effective translation of investment plans into action.
The meeting allowed participants to discuss and identify priorities for African Union Commission (AUC), NEPAD implementation agency NPCA, Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and countries to “accelerate implementation for results and impact”.
Participants were also enthusiastic about “Sustaining CAADP Momentum” strategic review exercise that will help in reorienting and galvanizing stakeholders as CAADP is approaching its ten years’ anniversary.
