Participation in the Seventh African Development Forum on “Acting on Climate for Sustainable Development"
The Forum took place in the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC) of UNECA in Addis Ababa, from 11 to 15 October 2010, with around 450 participants. The expert participated in a set of selected events:
- The ECA/InWENT experts meeting on climate change measurement (11-12 October), where he presented EX-ACT tool.
- Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (13 oct): Challenges and Opportunities , The Green Economy
- “Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security” (14 October), where he was FAO discussant presenting a PowerPoint.
- Climate change and ecosystem sustainability (14 October).
Expert meeting on climate change measurement: the EX-ACT tool was presented to a wide group of experts mostly working on statistics and climate change appraisal.
Cluster Climate change, food security and economic development : The FAO presentation on “Climate change, agriculture and food security”, highlighted the Core Principles that guide FAO’s work on Climate Change, i.e.: (i) integrating climate change concerns into food security and development planning; (ii) building synergies in mitigation, adaptation and sustainable food production; (iii) addressing adaptation and mitigation as an ongoing social learning processes; (iv) sustaining internalization of agriculture mitigation practices in farming systems; and (v) mainstreaming appraisal of GHG impact – carbon balance in projects, programmes and policies. It was emphasized that low carbon options contribute to agriculture productivity and food security.
