Providing policy assistance; preparation of strategies and programmes for sustainable agriculture and rural development, capacity development and analysis of emerging policy issues; managing transition of the agriculture sector from command to market economy in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia; preparation of policy framework for sustainable management of ecological fragile agricultural economies of the Pacific island countries; policy implications of higher energy prices on agriculture, the environment and sustainability of the resource base; emerging concerns related to the environment, bio-diversity and food safety in view of emerging standards and regulations.
