Global South-South Development Expo 2011

Solutions! Solutions! Solutions!

Global South-South
Development Expo 2011

5-9 December 2011 (Rome, Italy)

This year’s edition of the annual Global South-South Development Expo is focused on food security.

Representatives of countries, civil society, private sector and UN agencies will come together at FAO headquarters in Rome from 5 to 9 December. The objective is to share success stories from past and ongoing South-South partnerships, and explore new ideas and solutions for long-term and sustainable  food security.

South-South Cooperation is based on solidarity among developing countries and links countries that have development solutions to share, with countries in need of expertise.

The five-day event includes a Leadership Roundtable on food security moderated by BBC news presenter Zeinab Badawi, and a series of “solution exchange forums” covering:

Millennium Development Goals

  • agriculture, food security and capacity development
  • social protection, agriculture and food security
  • environment, agriculture and food security
  • nutrition, HIV/AIDS, agriculture and food security
  • health, agriculture and food security and agribusiness, food security and education

The aim of the forums is to share and discover customized solutions for countries in their efforts to move towards achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

Throughout the GSSD Expo 2011, an exhibition floor at FAO with over 30 exhibitors will also showcase and share some of the most successful and innovative Southern development solutions – shining examples of the current and potential strength of South-South cooperation.

Through the triangular cooperation pacts promoted by South-South Cooperation, FAO and other agencies facilitate and support the transfer of technology, training and information from relatively advanced developing countries to other developing countries that are need of such support.
