The Sub-District Administrator of Metinaro appealed to fishermen communities in the area to support ISLME program for their better life

During the Municipality workshop on ‘Enabling Transboundary Cooperation for Sustainable Management of the Indonesian Seas - ISLME’ in Metinaro on 16th of July 2019, the Sub-District Administrator, Mr. Fausto Soares, appealed to the fishermen communities to support the ISLME Program for their future prosperity.  The workshop was also attended by Mr. Teofilo Maia, National Director of the Department of Agriculture of Dili Municipality and Officers from the Fisheries Department (MAF),  , students from the National University of Timor-Leste (UNTL), local fishermen, and partner’s representations from UNDP and Timor Verde, Chief of villages, Women groups, Local NGOs and community members.

Ms. Bernardete da Fonseca, the ISLME National Advisor, presented and introduced the ISLME Program to the attendants which covered Program  objectives implementation of the activities, stakeholder’s involvement and timeline of the program.

The ISLME program will be implemented in two Municipalities respectively in Maliana and Dili, with more highlights on the development of the Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA) and Strategic Action Program (SAP), Ecosystem-based Fisheries Management (EAFM) and Aquaculture Approach Fisheries Management (AAFM) collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and Secretariat of State for Environment. FAO was thanked by the Sub-District Administrator for choosing the Sub-District of Metinaro to implement the ISLME program activities particularly on the protection of coastal areas against threats of erosion and illegal fishing. The Sub-District Administrator also appealed to the chief of villages, fishers groups to work  in synergy to support the implementation of the ISLME activities for their better life.
