Import Procurement of Basic Foodstuffs and Financing Mechanisms
in the Context of
the WTO Marrakesh Decision on LDCs and NFIDCs
The Roundtable will review the experience of net food-importing developing countries in international food procurement, including short-term difficulties they face in financing normal levels of commercial imports of basic foodstuffs. The Roundtable will have as a background paper a document entitled “Mechanisms for Financing Imports of Basic Foodstuffs by Net Food-Importing Developing Countries and Possibilities for Improvement”. Representatives of food import agencies, private traders and food import financing institutions will participate as resource persons.
