The first group of motivators begin their training
Project puts youth in vanguard of post-tsunami redevelopment: Building a sustainable future for costal communities from the bottom up
22/1/2008.  Rome/Banda Aceh - Youth from tsunami-affected fishing villages of four districts of the west coast in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) Province in Indonesia will be trained as "community motivators" (Motivator Masyarakat) to help promote sound management of the coastal fisheries upon which the province relies.

10/12/2007.  Thanks to multi-donor contributions exceeding US$ 20 million, FAO support has been directly assisting some 74 500 tsunami-affected families, thereby benefiting over 370 000 individuals through a total of 17 projects.

31/8/2007.  Thanks to generous support from the Government of the Italian Republic FAO assisted 39 800 tsunami-affected individuals in Sri Lanka, with over 30 activities covering the agriculture, forestry, fisheries and livestock sectors.

13/8/2007.  Colombo. As part of a ceremonial handover organized by the Ministry and the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (MFAR/DFAR), the Sri Lankan President, Mahinda Rajapakse, personally took part in the distribution of 40 inboard (IB) engines to beneficiaries residing in the most vulnerable fisher communities.

18/12/2006.  As part of a joint effort between FAO, Government line ministries and services, the Bureau for the Reconstruction and Rehabilitation (BRR) of Aceh and Nias and the NGO Plan International, the Lhoknga Animal Health Centre was officially inaugurated today by Mr Usman Budiman, Second Assistant for Economic Development to the Governor of Aceh.

10/5/2007.  Jakarta/Rome/Washington, DC - The American Red Cross and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have announced the launch of a new partnership to support the recovery of fishing communities in Indonesia's Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province affected by the 2004 tsunami.
Inferior boatbuilding undermines tsunami recovery
29/3/2006.  FAO today again urged authorities in tsunami-affected countries to redouble their efforts to ensure that fishing boats built to replace those destroyed during the 2004 disaster meet minimum safety standards.
