August 26: "Sustainable Technologies and Cooperation in Food and Agriculture & UNIDO International Award 2015" is an event organized by the Italian Cooperation, UNIDO and CNR that will be held at the Auditorium of Cascina Triulza at Expo Milano 2015. This event aims to: present methods, technological tools and programmes adopted in development cooperation projects that can be extended to and at least partially reproduced in other countries and different economic and social contexts; reach stakeholders keen to support, finance and participate directly in existing projects or interested in contributing to the development of new ideas and programmes; allow interested parties to examine cutting-edge technologies and systems for the transformation and sale of food products and technologies employed to set up monitoring, planning and simulation systems.
In the final session of the event UNIDO will present an award to the winners of a call for proposals launched by the organization for innovative projects in the area of technology, food transformation and energy production applied to agriculture. The awards include the "Women" and "Under 35" categories, and each winner will be given the opportunity to present their project to Mr. Giuseppe Sala, the Sole Commissioner of the Government for Expo Milano 2015.
The jury for this competition is led by Diana Battaglia, Director of the UNIDO Network of Investment and Technology Promotion Offices (ITPOs), who has identified five project initiatives that distinguish themselves through their originality, technological innovation, sustainability and concreteness. The proposals originate from research centers, startups and agencies that are involved in renewable energy for agriculture, agroindustry, machinery for agriculture, biotechnology, a qualitative increase in agricultural production, the sustainable management of natural resources and the reduction of food waste.
The five projects that will be awarded on the 26 August are the following: FOODWA Solwa srl (Italy), Jellyfish Barge Pnat srl (Italy), Burundi Smallholders’s Livestock Network BUSLIN André Ndereyimana Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Piacenza (Burundi/Italia), Cattle Mettle Nikhil Bohra Krimanshi Technologies Private Limited (India), and Valorizzazione dei frutti di fico d’india (Opuntia ficus indica L. Miller) per una produzione eco-sostenibile e di qualità Rosa Palmeri Dipartimento di Agricoltura Alimentazione e Ambiente Università di Catania.
