August 7-8: Global food security challenges, pre-conference of the International Conference of Agricultural Economists (ICAE) co-organised by the European Commission, European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) and International Agricultural Trade Research Consortium (IATRC) at Università degli Studi di Milano.
Global food security, the overarching theme of the Expo Milano 2015, remains high on the policy agenda. Still there is a growing difficulty for scientists and policy makers to keep up with the expanding volume of information about the challenge of meeting human food and nutritional needs while preserving natural resources. This 2-day pre-ICAE gathers high level speakers from academia, major international organisations and governments to provide a closer look at the various dimensions of food security.
On August 7 Mr Jamie Morrison, Senior Economist in the Trade and Markets Division of FAO will give a presentation on "Trade reforms and food security” during the morning session (09.00 – 10.30) on "Global outlook: setting the scene".
On August 8, Mr Kostas Stamoulis, Director of the Agricultural Development Economics Division, FAO, will moderate the session on "Where from the next green revolution?" from 11.00 am 12.30 to am. Ms Ann Tutwiler, Director General, Bioversity International, will participate in the same session with a presentation entitled "Bringing biodiversity into the green revolution equation”.
