October 24 - 31: Turn the World #UNBlue - Starting from the UN Day on October 24 until the closure of Expo on October 31, the Tree of Life will be lit in UN Blue, as part of the global campaign “Turn the World UN Blue” to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the United Nations.
October 26 - 30: “The Sahel and West Africa Week: Food Security in West Africa” - Organised in collaboration with Expo Milano 2015, the Week will raise public awareness of the Expo’s theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” from a West African perspective. The Expo represents a unique opportunity for stakeholders and partners to showcase their achievements and to share knowledge on how to improve food and nutrition security and increase resilience in the region. The Week will bring together regional organisations, representatives from West African governments and OECD countries, and experts in several events, including a two-day Forum to discuss the impact of on-going transformations on food security and resilience; a special session of the Food Crisis Prevention Network (RPCA) and a meeting of the Senior Experts Group of the Global Alliance for Resilience (AGIR) – Sahel and West Africa. The Week is organised by the Sahel and West Africa Club and its Members and partners, by invitation of the European Union.
Speakers include: Mr Dennis Garrity, Drylands Ambassador, of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), will moderate the panel on “Climate change, adaptation and food security” on October 26.
The Special session of the Food Crisis Prevention Network (RPCA), held at the Palazzo Stelline Congress centre in Milan city centre on October 29. Mr El Hadj Dramane Coulibaly, Principal Advisor, FAO, will participate.
The Meeting of the Senior Experts Group (SEG) of the Global Alliance for Resilience (AGIR) – Sahel and West Africa, held at the Palazzo Stelline on October 30, with the participation of Mr Toby Lanzer, UN Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for the Sahel.
October 27: “Hungry and foolish – the great adventure of food” - Screening of the feature documentary produced by RAI Radiotelevisione Italiana in partnership with FAO and UN-Expo, at the Expo Plaza in fron of the Media Centre.
October 27: "The protection of agri-food sector in the Euro-Mediterranean area" - Jointly organized by United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute and the Italian Ministry of Economic Development at the Expo Conference Centre. More info available here.
October 27 - 28: “Feeding the planet, feeding it healthy”, organized by the Italian Ministry of Health at the Italian Pavilion, with the participation of the FAO Assistant Director-General for Economic and Social Development, Mr Jomo Sundaram. More information available here
October 28 - 30: The XXXIX Congress of the Italian Association of Epidemiology will be held at the University Bicocca of Milan. The FAO Assistant Director-General for Economic and Social Development, Mr Jomo Sundaram, will participate in the concluding session of the congress on October 30th, with a presentation on the “Post 2015 Development Framework: Hunger, Food Security and Nutrition”.
