The UN will hold up high the flag for food security and nutrition at Expo Milan 2015

Expo Milan 2015-05-04 “The UN is proud to be here to highlight the cause of food security,” Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in his video-message welcoming visitors to the UN Garden, an open-air area close to Pavilion Zero and the Expo's entrance, where visitors will be introduced to the UN theme for Expo 2015, "The Zero Hunger Challenge • United for a sustainable world".

The United Nations are an official participant at Expo Milano 2015, and the inauguration ceremony on 1 May 2015 was attended by the UN Commissioner-General for Expo 2015, Eduardo Rojas-Briales (FAO Deputy Director-General), who was accompanied by the UN Deputy Commissioner-General for Expo 2015, Josefina Stubbs (IFAD Associate Vice President), and the Communications Director of WFP, Trish Ault.

The United Nations’ participation in the World Exposition in Milan offers a unique opportunity to highlight issues related to food security. As a result, the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, has chosen the three Rome-based UN agencies (FAO, IFAD and WFP), under the direction of the FAO Director-General, to carry out the role of coordinating the 20 UN agencies participating in Expo Milan 2015.
