Coordination activities

The role of the Office of United Nations Coordination and Millennium Development Goals Follow-up is to promote at the policy level FAO's partnerships and coordination with other parts of the UN system, including coordination of reform processes and strengthened collaboration among the Rome-based agencies.

Strengthening FAO's Partnerships
The Office has a lead role in developing and promoting a corporate partnership strategy, supported by strategies relating to the UN system, with emphasis on enhanced collaboration with the Rome-based Agencies, IFAD and WFP; civil society organisations; and the private sector.

Cooperation with the UN system
The Office promotes and facilitates strengthened with in the UN system cooperation by:

Relations with UN intergovernmental bodies
The Office facilitates communication with UN intergovernmental bodies, including the United Nations General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and governing bodies of other UN entities, of policy decisions taken by FAO intergovernmental bodies and information on relevant FAO programmes and activities.


Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
The Office coordinates FAO's contributions to achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. It services FAO's High-level External Committee on the Millennium Development Goals established by the Director-General to assist the Organization to support the commitment by the UN Systems' Chief Executives Board (CEB) to tackling collectively and effectively the challenge of achieving Goals by 2015.

The Office of United Nations Coordination and Millennium Development Goals Follow-up also leads and coordinates the development of a workplace environmental management system and climate-neutral strategy, with reference to United Nations guidelines.
