DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Agricultural Policy Support Service, and the immediate supervision of a Senior Agricultural Policy Officer will:

  • conduct policy analysis work on agriculture, food security and rural development issues in the context of policy assistance to member countries;
  • contribute to interdepartmental work on identification and analysis of emerging and priority policy issues;
  • contribute to FAO’s field programme development;
  • identify, formulate and backstop policy-relevant projects and programmes;
  • undertake capacity building activities in related work areas targeted at FAO staff and external audiences;
  • develop and maintain effective working relationships with FAO partners in the area of policy assistance;
  • contribute to the monitoring of country policies and strategies and the preparation of lessons learned and good practices;
  • support, when required, policy work conducted by policy officers in the decentralized offices;
  • perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:

  • Advanced university degree in agricultural or development economics or related field
  • Seven years of relevant experience in food, agriculture and rural development policy analysis and formulation, including experience in organizing and delivering policy assistance in FAO member countries
  • Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

  • Extent and relevance of international experience in policy assistance
  • Extent and relevance of field experience in developing countries and/or countries in transition
  • demonstrated ability in the formulation of food, agricultural and rural development policy assistance and/or capacity building projects
  • Good communications skills, both oral and in writing in English
  • Quality of analytical skills
  • Knowledge of a third official language of the Organization would be an asset

* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.

REMUNERATION

Level P-4 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 111,299 US$ 136,372 (without dependants) and from US$ 119,520 to US$ 147,289 (with dependants)
