DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct supervision of the Secretariat manager and the overall supervision of the Chief of Environmental Assessment and Management Unit, the incumbent will carry out the following duties and responsibilities:

  • ensure technical quality and policy soundness of partnership activities in relation to the goals of the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) and international frameworks such as the UN Commission for Sustainable Development (CSD);
  • follow up on developments in bioenergy production levels and identify progress and developments at the international level that are most relevant to the partnership and its activities;
  • monitor the development and adoption by the Executive Board of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of bioenergy methodologies for agriculture and forestry activities;
  • ensure knowledge exchange among partners using knowledge management and networking tools, taking into consideration availability of technology in partner countries;
  • assist in organizing GBEP activities such as: biannual GBEP Steering Committee meetings; technical workshops and reports; communications between GBEP’s Chair and Vice-chair; databases on partners’ activities on bioenergy; communication mechanisms between GBEP partners and with other international bioenergy cooperation initiatives;
  • perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:

  • University degree in environmental or political sciences, economics or other relevant discipline.
  • Five years of relevant experience in the area of environment and/or economics including experience in participating and organizing international meetings, and in the preparation of reports and publications.
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of a second language of the Organization.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

  • Extent of knowledge of international bioenergy issues for development and climate change;
  • Experience in organizing and participating in international meetings;
  • Knowledge in negotiations related to the UNFCC;
  • Relevance of work experience in programme implementation and analyse problems and develop effective solutions;
  • Coordination skills and ability to meet tight deadlines;
  • Good interpersonal skills.

Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.
