DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the Chief, NRLW and the direct supervision of Senior Officers and in close collaboration with colleagues from relevant FAO Headquarters and Decentralised Offices, will contribute to the implementation of NRLW programme in the field of agricultural water management to:- contribute to the development of a methodology to identify suitability domains for agricultural water management intervention in support to poverty alleviation in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia;
- conduct livelihood surveys based on above methodology in six countries, including organization of national teams;
- conduct needs assessment and situation analysis of national strategies in agricultural water management, and of coordination mechanisms in the water sector in selected countries;
- contribute to the development of a strategy for policy engagement in agricultural water management at national, regional and international levels;
- identify opportunities and methods to disseminate information and ensure information exchange between research and decision-making in the field of agricultural water management;
- organize and facilitate workshops in countries to disseminate lessons learned and promote scaling up of promising agricultural water management options;
- ensure monitoring, regular reporting and coordination of activities, including with external partners;
- contribute to the development of a strategy to deliver coordinated UN-Water response at national level to meet the MDG water and sanitation goals and to its implementation through internal UN mechanisms;
- perform other duties as requested.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
|
- Advanced University degree in Agronomy, water resources management or related field
- Five years of relevant experience in agricultural water management, including experience in developing countries
- Working knowledge of English and French
|
SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
|
- Extent of experience in agricultural water management in developing countries
- Depth of knowledge in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and livelihood mapping
- Extent of experience in project management
- Extent of knowledge and experience with United Nations’ institutions
- Initiative, sense of responsibility
- Networking and facilitation skills
- Demonstrated analytical ability, ability to write reports and correspondence clearly and concisely
