DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Emergency Operations and Rehabilitation Division works in post-disaster and complex emergency situations and helps to protect, restore and enhance food production and the livelihoods of farmers, herders, fishers and associated processors and artisans.

  • The Rehabilitation and Humanitarian Policies Unit, TCER, is responsible for most cross-cutting issues important for the Division, interacting with many internal and external partners.
  • Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Humanitarian Policies and Rehabilitation (TCER), the direct supervision of the Information Manager (TCER), will be responsible for reporting and communication activities for the assigned region (i.e. region 1: Latin America, the Carribeans and West and Central Africa, region 2: East and Southern Africa, region 3: Eastern Europe, Asia and the Pacific). Specifically, will
  • plan and implement reporting and communication relevant activities for the assigned region in close collaboration with TCE field offices and Operations Officers.
  • undertake missions to the assigned region to strengthen reporting and communication capacity of FAO’s Emergency Coordination Units (ECU), as appropriate
  • contribute to the enhancement of divisional communication and reporting activities, including documentation of best practices and lessons learned, preparation of guidelines, models and templates
  • oversee the production of final narrative project reports for the assigned region in accordance with Organization’s reporting and editorial guidelines
  • provide drafting, translation and editing services for reports, project documents, working papers, for the assigned region;
  • train and provide guidance to the assigned staff and consultants in the reporting unit at HQ and the field to ensure consistency and quality of reporting standards throughout the division
  • participate in the design and implementation of advocacy strategies and advise TCE desk and field offices of the region on communication matters;
  • coordinate the preparation of advocacy material on FAO’s emergency activities in the assigned region and ensure its distribution to the public. Prepare briefing material for the assigned region for TCE management and senior staff
  • perform other related duties as required.

**APPOINTMENT/PROMOTION TO THE POST IS TEMPORARY AS ITS DURATION IS FOR ONE YEAR,
WITH POSSIBILITY OF EXTENSION

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:

  • Advanced university degree in communication, social sciences or relevant field
  • Five years of relevant experience in report writing, editing and communication in an international organization
  • Working knowledge of English, French and/or Spanish, depending of the assigned region

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

  • Extend of experience in reporting and communication related to emergency and development programmes in an international organization, both at headquarters and/or in the field
  • Excellent project document writing skills in the languages relevant to the assigned region
  • Ability to identify, recruit and supervise in-house and outsourced consultants
  • Aptitude to work as part of a team and to build partnerships at field and HQ levels
  • Capacity to work under minimum supervision and within tight deadlines
  • Extent of field experience and willingness to travel to the field

* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.

REMUNERATION

Level carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ US$ (without dependants) and from US$ to US$ (with dependants)
