  FAQs

Q: What jobs are available at FAO in my field? I am an agronomist with experience in a number of countries?

A: Vacancy Announcements are published on the FAO web site at the following address: http://www.fao.org/VA/Employ.htm. Information such as the duties, responsibilities and minimum requirements for the position are given. Qualified candidates should forward their application to the email address indicated in the relevant Vacancy Announcement or forward it via facsimile to the indicated number.

Q: How do I apply for a job at FAO?

A: Vacancies are listed at: http://www.fao.org/VA/Employ.htm. To apply, you must complete a Personal History Form, quoting the vacancy announcement number or send a detailed Curriculum Vitae, only if you cannot download the PH form.

Q: What type of expertise do I need to work at FAO?

A: FAO employs people from a range of areas of expertise. Please view the web sites of the FAO Departments to see the scope of their work and activities. Consult the vacancy announcements to see the minimum requirements for the different grades. In general, however, all professional posts require relevant work experience, good academic qualifications and working knowledge of two of the languages of the Organization (English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Chinese).

Q: Could you please tell me if Georgia is currently non- or under-represented at FAO?

A: Please consult the lists of under-represented and non-represented countries.

Q: What is the status of my application for a specific job with FAO?

A: When you have submitted an application, the responsible department will respond within four weeks (from the time it has been received), acknowledging the receipt of the application. During this period, please refrain from inquiries about your application, as this will delay our response time. In this connection please note that the selection process may take in excess of six months for completion. You may view the list of positions that have been filled to see if the position that you applied for has been filled.

Q: What education level and work experience are necessary to qualify for the Young Professionals programme?

A: Information about the Young Professionals programme appears at the following URL: http://www.fao.org/GENINFO/partner/en/index.html.

Q: Does FAO have an internship programme?

A: No, however, the Organization has a Volunteer programme. To apply, complete the Personal History form at http://www.fao.org/VA/adm11e.dot (this is a Word document) and enclose a written proposal (maximum 2 pages) describing the objectives and expected results of the voluntary work. Return your application to Volunteer.Programme@fao.org. Upon receipt of the application, it will be referred to the appropriate Department for evaluation. You will be informed in due course of the outcome of this evaluation.

Q: Does FAO offer grants?

A: FAO does not have funds available to support individual requests. The FAO Fellowship programme is a world-wide endeavor and all awards form an integral part of technical assistance projects. As such projects are agreed upon in advance by the government of recipient developing countries, the donors and FAO, it is not possible for the Organization to consider individual requests.
