DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of the Chief, Special Programmes for Food Security (SPFS), Management and Coordination Service (TCOS), the Food Security Officer, and the direct supervision of a Senior Food Security Officer, will assist in the coordination and implementation of the Special Programmes for Food Security: Special Programme for Food Security (SPFS), South-South Cooperation (SSC), National and Regional Programmes for Food Security (NPFS and RPFS). Specifically to:

  • assist in the monitoring and follow-up on the implementation of the SPFS, SSC, NPFS and RPFS, including programme development, particularly in the countries and region assigned;
  • assist in the preparation and review of analytical progress/assessment reports;
  • obtain technical clearance from divisions concerned and government clearance on SSC experts and field technicians;
  • review the TORs of programme identification and programme formulation missions, reports, NPFS and project documents;
  • contribute to the preparation of technical documents related to the SPFS/NPFS/RPFS, particularly assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of household and national food security;
  • assist in the coordination of the Programmes both at headquarters’ and decentralized structure level and participate in task force, donor and review committee meetings;
  • participate in the coordination and preparation of documents, country profiles and briefs;
  • participate in SPFS/NPFS/RPFS and SSC identification and formulation missions;
  • perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:

  • Advanced university degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in agriculture, agricultural economics or closely related fields
  • Three years of relevant experience related to food security projects and programmes, including programme review and
  • evaluation
  • Working knowledge of English and Spanish or French

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

  • Extent of experience in development and implementation of field programmes in developing countries
  • Extent of familiarity with food security issues relevant to developing countries
  • Extent of familiarity with management information systems and field project monitoring and reporting system
  • Extent of knowledge of UN operational procedures
  • Good communication skills, both oral and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse food security related issues and prepare reports

Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.

REMUNERATION

Level P-2 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 67,063 US$ 80,572 (without dependants) and from US$ 71,499 to US$ 86,348 (with dependants)
