DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall supervision of the Principal Advisor, ESWD, and the direct supervision of the Team Leader of the Task Team on Rural Employment, the incumbent will contribute to the achievement of the Organizational Results related to Enabling Markets to Improve Livelihoods. Specifically to:- assist in the formulation, conduct and integration of analytical studies and assessments of levels and trends in rural employment, with particular attention to gender equity issues;
- collect, analyse and present quantitative and qualitative information on rural labour in support of FAO’s work on gender mainstreaming;
- participate in the preparation, editing, production and/or distribution of FAO information products related to decent rural employment;
- develop and maintain contacts with other Divisions and Departments in FAO and partner organizations collaborating with FAO in the areas of gender mainstreaming, social equity, rural employment, rural institutions, and poverty alleviation;
- support government efforts to formulate agriculture and rural development policies and programmes that incorporate rural employment;
- liaise with ILO and contribute to the update and maintenance of FAO/ILO website;
- participate in field missions and provide technical backstopping as needed;
- perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
|
- University degree in Economics
- Three years of experience with a focus on rural labour markets, employment and gender/social equity issues
- Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of French, Spanish or other UN languages
|
SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

- Extent and relevance of academic qualifications
- Extent and relevance of experience in developing countries, including in rural areas
- Knowledge and demonstrated commitment to gender equitable and decent employment approaches
- Capacity to grasp, analyze and synthesize current rural development issues and trends related to food and agriculture
- Ability to set up and undertake empirical socio-economic research, including the generation and analysis of sex disaggregated data and statistics
- Good oral and written communication skills, including web-based communications and networking

* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.

REMUNERATION
|
Level P-2
carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 71,620
US$ 86,047
(without dependants) and from US$ 76,357
to US$ 92,216
(with dependants)
