DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall supervision of the Assistant Director-General, Office of UN Coordination and MDG Follow-up, UNC, and the direct supervision of the Senior Liaison Officer, UNC, to:

  • assist in the review and analysis of information and documents from organizations within the UN system to identify important developments in their policies, work programmes and activities and determine the implications for FAO;
  • participate in the preparations for the meetings of the United Nations System’s Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB), the High-level Committee on Programmes (HLCP) and other inter-agency coordination arrangements;
  • assist in the preparation, consolidation and/or editing of reports and comments requested from FAO by other organizations;
  • contribute to the elaboration and promotion of partnerships;
  • provide support in formulating FAO contributions to and follow-up to UN system events and major meetings;
  • participate in preparing comments of a policy nature on FAO documents, initiatives and meetings;
  • assist in carrying out programming, budgetary and reporting tasks, in particular relating to inputs for the Strategic Framework, Medium Term Plan and Programme of Work and Budget;
  • provide appropriate information to ad hoc requests both from within and outside the Organization;
  • perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:

  • University degree in Humanities, Social Sciences or related field
  • Three years of experience in governmental, non-governmental or international organizations
  • Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

  • Extent of experience and understanding of the UN system, other international organizations and Millennium Development Goals
  • Extent of knowledge of FAO’s major programmes and policies, including the FAO reform process
  • Extent of experience in carrying out programming, budgetary and reporting tasks
  • Excellent drafting skills in English
  • Extent of analytical and communications skills, both orally and in writing, and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, multicultural environment
  • Ability to analyse problems, make recommendations, undertake independent research and present clear and concise reports, briefs and correspondence
  • Ability to plan and organize work and to work independently
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and to accept and finalize tasks with a relatively short lead-time

* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.
