DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the Service Chief and the direct supervision of the Senior Forestry Officer (Global Forest Resources Assessment), the incumbent will assist in the implementation of the programme related to the Global Forest Resources Assessment Programme. In particular, the incumbent will:- be the focal point and contribute to the implementation of the Global Forest Resources Assessment 2010 in Asia;
- support the development of national capabilities in the fields of forest monitoring, assessment and reporting;
- organize and conduct regional and sub-regional training and data validation workshops related to FRA 2010;
- maintain frequent contacts with the national correspondents in the region, provide technical support and ensure a timely delivery of country reports and other requested information;
- undertake quality control of draft country reports and assist correspondents with the finalization of reports as needed;
- collect and compile relevant information for selected countries;
- assist with selected special studies;
- perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
|
- Advanced university degree in forestry or related field.
- Five years of relevant work experience in the field of forest monitoring and assessment, including experience in the application of forest inventory in developing countries and/or of regional/global forest resources assessments.
- Working level knowledge of English, limited knowledge of French or Spanish.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
|
- Relevance of education and work experience
- Extent of technical knowledge related to forest assessment, monitoring and reporting
- Extent of international work, including work in or with developing countries
- Extent of experience in organizing and conducting international training workshops
- Communication skills, both written and oral, on technical issues.
|
Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.
