Turning Points in Modern Aquaculture  2010 Ref.: F2010 this 15-min video was produced by the Aquaculture Service of the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department for the Global Conference on Aquaculture 2010 and the Fifth session of the COFI Sub-Committtee on Aquaculture held in Phuket, Thailand in October 2010. With film clips taken from various countries and photos contributed by many - depicting the range of people, species, environments, systems, practices as well as opportunities and challenges facing aquaculture, this video takes viewers to a historical journey to the  major turning points in aquaculture development since the early and first aquaculture practice by a Chinese named Fan Li two millennia ago. These four watersheds span 25 years from the Kyoto Strategy on Aquaculture Development (1976), to the establishment of the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (1995) through to The Bangkok Declaration and Strategy for Aquaculture (2000) and immediately followed by the creation of  the Committee on Fisheries Sub-Committee on Aquaculture (2001) - enough to nourish its development through the next 25 so that  aquaculture, now the fastest growing food producing sector can serve the people better, and communities and nations continue to prosper.  Duration: 14' 28''  Languages: English Plantación de semillas de árboles frutales en Etiopía  2012 Ref.: 9999 Durante cientos de años, los agricultores de las altas tierras secas del norte de Etiopía han dependido de la producción del cereal. For nearly a decade, FAO Goodwill Ambassador Miriam Makeba was a strong supporter of FAOs fight to reduce hunger and improve the livelihoods of the worlds poorest people, FAO Director-General Jacques Diouf said on learning of Makebas death. Mama Africa spoke out against the violence, inequality and disease that kept many people, especially women and children, living in conditions of extreme poverty. We will miss her energy and her respectful concern for the worlds most vulnerable, Diouf said. Makeba had been an FAO Goodwill Ambassador since 1999. Over the years, she had participated in a long list of events and concerts organized by FAO, including performances to raise funds for FAO TeleFood projects in South Africa, Jamaica and Spain. Makeba was active in FAOs communications campaigns against hunger, both in interviews with the international news media and through public service announcements. In April 2001, Makeba visited FAO post-emergency projects in Mozambique, increasing the visibility and impact of FAOs activities in Africa.
