Webinar "Digital Innovation to Tackle Climate Change and Transform Food Systems"

26/02/2021

The global demand for food and natural resources is expected to increase to meet the needs of a growing world population. Current food systems are unsustainable because of an increased use of natural resources, and the impact of these food systems on our climate and the environment, including soil depletion, biodiversity loss and greenhouse gas emissions.

The world must “build back better” after COVID-19 and that includes developing climate resilient food systems. A transformation of agri-food systems is needed to help achieve the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals. Innovation can transform food systems and offer solutions to the current climate emergency by sustainably increasing food productivity while building resilience to climate change and protecting natural resources. Innovation is the central driving force behind a world free from hunger and malnutrition and has great potential to enhance access to clean water, energy and food, as well as providing knowledge and tools.

The aim of this event is to demonstrate the importance of technological innovation in agriculture to tackle climate change, increase food security and promote rural development. During the event speakers shared practical examples on innovative solutions to protect agriculture and food systems from the impacts of climate change.
