World Food Day 2015 Ceremony at Expo Milan

The 35th observance of World Food Day commemorates the 70th Anniversary of the founding of FAO, and is celebrated at Expo Milano.

 

The theme of the World Food Day 2015 is "Social Protection and Agriculture: Breaking the Cycle of Rural Poverty". It is linked to the UN theme for Expo 2015, "The Zero Hunger Challenge. United for a Sustainable World".

 

Speakers include: President of the Republic of Italy, Sergio Mattarella; UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon; FAO Director-General, José Graziano da Silva; Permanent Observer of the Holy See to FAO, Monsignor Fernando Chica Arellano, to read a message from Pope Francis; Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paolo Gentiloni; Italian Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies, Maurizio Martina; IFAD President, Kanayo F. Nwanze; WFP Executive Director, Ertharin Cousin; Mayor of Milan, Giuliano Pisapia.

 

World Food Day is observed in more than 150 countries world-wide.
