FAO, OECD and UNCDF have joined forces in a multi-year and multi-phase initiative to assess Food Security and Nutrition (FSN) policies from a territorial perspective. The evidence gathered from the findings of eight country studies in Africa, Asia and Latin America have been consolidated in a publication called Adopting a Territorial Approach to Food Security and Nutrition Policy will be presented during a side-event next 19 September at FAO Headquarters in the context of a Technical Workshop on rural transformation, agricultural and food system transition.

The side-event will be divided in two main parts:
- In the first part, FAO, OECD and UNCDF representatives, together with other members from different international organizations will present the publication and discuss the key findings and its main outcomes.
- In the second part, Mr Fabrizio Barca, former Italian Minister for Territorial Cohesion and Director General of the Ministry of Finance will present the Italian experience in the application of a territorial approach for the formulation and implementation of the development of the Italian strategy for the Inner Areas.

The main goal of the event is thus to raise awareness among the participants, to highlight the importance of adopting a territorial approach to address food insecurity and rural poverty in developing countries as well as in the marginal areas of the developed ones.

The Technical Workshop on Rural transformation, agricultural and food system transition: Building the evidence base for policies that promote sustainable development, food and nutrition security and poverty reduction will be held at FAO HQ from September 19-20. Both the workshop and side-event are the fruit of a collaboration between ESA and ESP.
