Food Crises and COVID-19 – Emerging evidence and implications for action

The 2020 Global Report on Food crises painted an already dire picture of global acute food insecurity and malnutrition – even before COVID-19 began to impact the world’s food systems. As the pandemic continues to unfold, evidence of its impacts on food security continues to mount. Against this backdrop, key partners of the Global Network against Food Crises will hold a side event at the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, to update Members and stakeholders on the latest evidence and spark discussion on how the international community can respond.
The Zoom-based virtual event will feature the participation of the EU’s Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič; the UN’s Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Mark Lowcock; FAO Director-General QU Dongyu; a high level representative from the World Food Program (WFP); Sara Pantuliano, Chief Executive of the Overseas Development Institute (ODI); and others.
